Last week, I wrapped a whole bunch of books in brown paper. Every book had some connection to the novels being studied at present by AS students. Each wrapped book had a huge question mark drawn on the front of it.
These were emptied out on the floor as students sat round in a circle to observe. They then went to grab any book they fancied the look of and ripped them open with excitement.
All the books are my personal ones and so they have been signed out of the classroom library.
Students were also given a list of three essay titles they must choose from upon completing the book. Roll on 31st January when I can read their essays:
- This novel altered my perspective on life
- This novel was simultaneously heart-warming and harrowing (insert other adjectives).
-
This author shed light on human existence (insert other nouns) through their writing.
Hopefully these books will also be the starting point in their participation in the 6 book challenge, which anyone and everyone at College is being invited to take part in.
