A new year, presents a fresh start and one of my first starting places was my classroom. My students have had their first week of lessons in the room and these are some of the new changes and displays:
A wall of tips from last year’s students to motivate learners through the first few weeks.
A calendar of key dates for students to monitor.
Signed ‘Great Expectations’ as a constant reminder of expected behaviours and attitudes.
A wall to promote better questioning from students and me.
A ‘What’s On’ wall to promote local English related events.
An area for learning outcomes so I’m reminded to share them.
Students’ desired grades on Lego men and balloons above the board.

Our work spills into the corridor too.
Students’ book recommendations to the Sixth Form on the classroom door and around the English board.
The English board contains a space for announcements for each course.
It also has a space for any student looking to improve their writing.
Folders contain help-sheets on connectives, paragraph structures, proofreading and effective note-making.
I have a lovely new desk space for the new year too:
Look out for how these spaces will inevitably develop this year. I don’t have to post a picture of my desk for you to know it won’t be remaining this tidy!
